Asa WeithersAsa Weithers is a national junior judo athlete who has represented Barbados at several regional and international competitions over the past few years.  Born into a judo family where his dad is Head Coach of the National Association and Olympic Coach, his sister was a national level athlete who now leads a Kinder Judo programme at the family run club at Marine Gardens, his mother is the Club administrator and uncle is an international referee; Asa sees judo not simply as a sport but as a way of life. Since his international debut at the Junior US Open Judo Championships in 2004, Asa has continued to show tremendous potential.  His competitive record has been exemplary and mimics the progression of world class athletes in registering sustained high performance at national and regional level events.

His immediate athletic goals has him training six days per week, two sessions per day, as he seeks to qualify for the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.  Barbados will also send a contingent of athletes to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Asa is also hoping to represent his country at these Games. Most recently he has won bronze medals on successive weekends, in Martinique and Guadeloupe respectively, in two senior competitions hosted by St. Pierre Judo during the first weekend of May 2013 and the League of Judo of Guadeloupe during the second weekend. His current academic goals following successful completion of the Associate Degree in Computer Studies, is the pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of the West Indies majoring in Information Technology. When not training and studying  Asa may be found liming on the beach, hanging out with judo friends or simply enjoying good movies and music.
