At BCC there are many Associate Degree majors for you to choose from. You can pursue two or three of the majors listed below that will go towards your attainment of your Associate Degree in Arts or Science:

All applicants will be required to attend an audition.

Fashion Design

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Persons applying for admission to the Associate Degree or the Certificate must submit 10 fashion sketches and/or 3 garments if they are required to attend an interview.

Along with your applications, you must submit a 300-word essay outlining your interest in the field. There is also a qualifying exam you must take which will test the following:

  1. Your ability to use the English language
  2. Your knowledge of current affairs
  3. Your media awareness
Music (full & part-time)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Persons applying for admission to this programme are required to have knowledge of Music. They are also required to play an instrument or sing at a Grade 5 Level. All applicants will be required to attend an audition and take a theory exam.

Office Administration & Management (full & part-time) Mathematics or Accounting

Paralegal Studies (day-release)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Psychology (day-release)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Applicants must be at least 18 years old

Public Sector Management (part-time) Mathematics or Accounting
Social Work (day-release)  

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Applicants should be at least 17 years old. Also you must submit with your application, a personal statement of not more than 600 words along with two (2) written recommendations illustrating your suitability for the social work profession.

Sport Management (day-release)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Theatre Arts (full-time)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Visual Art    

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Visual Arts applicants are required to complete the following projects:
Compulsory

  1. Using materials of your choice, visually interpret, in colour, one of the most interesting and memorable events of your life and then explain it in not less than one hundred words (100) on the reverse side of the paper.
  2. Use cut/torn paper to construct a collage representing one of the following: a still life composition, or a landscape.
  3. Make a free-hand drawing of part of a room, which includes at least three pieces of furniture or three objects. Draw this view as realistically as possible, placing emphasis on shading and proportion.
  4. Arrange two chairs in an interesting way, then make a drawing of these chairs as accurately as you can. This drawing is to be done free-hand - you may not use a ruler to help you do the drawing.
  5. Select three objects and place them on a window sill/ledge, or a table in front of a window where you can see both the objects and the view beyond. Make a drawing of the objects and the view behind the objects.
  6. Make a drawing of your hand holding an object that has special meaning to you.

Each assignment must be completed on a separate sheet of 279mm X 420mm (11¾ X 16½) paper. Additional work should not be submitted.

Architectural Studies

English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and any two (2) of these subjects are accepted – technical equivalent subject (SJPP or City & Guilds), Art/Visual Arts, Geography and/or Technical/Engineering Drawing.

Building & Civil Engineering (full & part-time)

English Language, Mathematics and Technical/Engineering Drawing are compulsory, and any one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics, Chemistry, Electrical & Electronic Technology or Geography.

Computer Studies

English Language and Mathematics are compulsory.

Culinary Arts

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory.

Electrical Engineering (part-time)

English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and any one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics, Chemistry or Electrical & Electronic Technology.

Electronics & Computer Engineering (full & part-time)

English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and any of one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics or a technical equivalent subject (SJPP or City & Guilds).

Environmental Health Inspection Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry are required; Physics or Integrated Science.
General Nursing Mathematics, Chemistry, Integrated Science or Biology. Applicants must be at least 17 years old
Health Information Management Mathematics is required; Physics, Chemistry or Integrated Science.
Hospitality Studies (full & part-time)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory.

Land Surveying

English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and any of one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics, Chemistry, technical subject or Geography.

Mechanical Engineering (part-time)

English Language, Mathematics and a technical subject are compulsory, and any of one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics, Chemistry or a technical equivalent subject (SJPP or City & Guilds).

Medical Laboratory Technology Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology are required. Physics is optional. Applicants must be at least 17 years old.
Pharmacy

English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry are compulsory; and any of one (1) of these subjects are accepted – Physics or Integrated Science.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old.

Physical Education (day-release)

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory

Rehabilitation Therapy Technology Mathematics and Biology are required; Physics, Chemistry or Integrated Science.
Tourism & Travel

Four (4) CXCs or equivalent, English Language is compulsory
