Overview

Nursing is a profession which provides a service to individuals, families and communities. It involves the assessment of health needs, the planning, implementation and evaluation of health care through the utilisation of an evidence based approach. Nursing care is based on the application of scientific principles and involves health promotion, diagnosis, restoration and rehabilitation.

On completion of training, the individual will have acquired knowledge and developed skills and attitudes to function effectively as a competent professional Nurse and as a member of the health team.

Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of Bachelor of Sciences Degree in General Nursing.

On successful completion of the programme, students are required to write the Regional Examination for Nurse Registration (RENR).

Admission Requirements

Eligible applicants applying for the four-year programme must have a minimum of:

Five (5) passes inclusive of English Language, Mathematics and Biology or Human and Social Biology or Integrated Science or Chemistry at CSEC General Proficiency Level at Grade 1, 2, or 3 (from June 1998 only) OR

Five (5) passes inclusive of English Language Mathematics and Biology or Human and Social Biology or Integrated Science or Chemistry at GCE Ordinary Level at Grades A, B or C OR

Graduates of the Pre-Health Sciences programme – must gain a minimum of 60% in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology OR

Graduates of the Certificate in Nursing Assistant programme – must have English, Mathematics, either Biology, Human and Social Biology, Chemistry or Integrated Science in addition to the Nursing Assistant Certificate.
