BCC Staff Unwind with a Shopping Day at Bridgetown Duty Free

Staff of the Barbados Community College (BCC) got a strong start to the season when they attended this year’s Corporate Christmas Shopping hosted by Bridgetown Duty Free on December 6th.

Staff enjoyed drinks, deals and demonstrations all organised by the brilliant minds from Human Resources and Labour Relations Department (HRLR).

The event provided staff with an opportunity to relax and bond with their colleagues outside of the BCC campus while enjoying a 20% discount on select items, allowing them to get ahead of their Christmas shopping.

Manager of Human Resources and Labour Relations, Atoya Hinds explained how important it was that staff be celebrated in this way, underlining the value of boosting morale within an institution like the BCC.

“We’re excellent educators, but we’re also excellent at shopping and spreading holiday cheer.”

One BCC staff member applauded the initiative, hoping that she has the chance to do it all again next year.

“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for mingling among people that you know.”

Taking part in the Fenty Beauty tutorial and colour testing, she added that she was quite impressed with her new look.

Along with the makeup demonstration, staff were invited to enjoy free cocktails as they entered the store and later on, received useful fitness tips from Total Sport Gym Instructor, Christopher Headley.

When asked if they would bring the event back next year organisers gave an emphatic yes with the caveat that they hoped to make some changes to better include everyone who works at the BCC.

“For me it’s about being inclusive to all. So perhaps we tried it in store this time but surely next year my thoughts will be to bring it on campus,” Ms Hinds said.

Thanks to Ms. Hinds and HR Intern Gemia Mayers, the event was enjoyed by all, with almost 60 people registering for the event and hoping to return in 2026.
