The Barbados Community College (BCC) football team has won its first championship in the 30 years it has been competing and all without conceding a single goal.
Winners of the Barbados Secondary School Football League Under 19 Tournament, the BCC football team is proud of its dominant victory in the national competition and attributes its success to the dedication of its players and coaches.
Head Coach and BCC Physical Education Aide, Stefan King, praised the students’ performance and noted their improvement as players and teammates, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie in a team sport.
“That natural friendship that they had off the field was another reason that they probably fought for each other so hard on the field.”
He thanked his assistant coach Sean Greenidge for his dedication to the team, describing him as the recipe for success.
“As head coach I could be a little demanding and a little fiery, but Sean is able to bridge that gap between what I'm expecting and how they are feeling as players.”
Coach King applauded the team’s defenders, describing goalie Ricshon Anthony and central midfielder Caleb Went as standout players, particularly responsible for the team’s flawless record.
Thanking his coaches, Ricshon added that their success was, in no small part, a result of the instruction they received, both in training and during the match.
While proud of his performance as a goalie, Ricshon explained that the reason none of their opponents managed to score was also because his team was so efficient in keeping the ball away from the net.
On the other side of the field was BCC student Semaj Best who scored the second most goals in the tournament.
Thanking his teammates and coaches, Semaj expressed his excitement for the upcoming knockout tournament, noting that while BCC are the favourites to win, they certainly have a target on their backs after their impressive performance.
While a date is yet to be set for the matches, Semaj is already anticipating fierce competition and expects their opponents to match the BCC football team’s dedication to the game and pursuit of victory.
