Staff And Students Offered Opportunities To Get Moving

With interdivisional sports just around the corner, the Barbados Community College (BCC) is inviting its staff and students to experience all the activities offered outside the office and classroom.

Physical Education Aide, Stefan King, explained that students could register for the upcoming events by speaking to their division’s faculty or student representatives.

King added that several athletic activities were also on offer throughout the semester, in the gym at lunch, or in the afternoon.

Football, basketball, badminton, and volleyball run on different days throughout the week, and interested persons can stop by his office in the gymnasium to register.

“You don’t have to be on a BCC team; you could just come and play a pickup game.”

Additionally, the college offers aerobic and tennis classes in the afternoon, ensuring the campus-wide community has access to exercise options, regardless of their schedules.

Aerobics instructor Dave Waldron has been offering his services to the college for several years and noted the impact his class has had on the health of participants of all ages.

“It gives you more access to yourself. You concentrate better, you rest better, you’re more focused when you’re doing your work.”

Waldron revealed that ever since Covid, he’s noticed a dip in participation, but remarked that his core group still attended and still benefited years after the class’s creation.

King invited anyone interested in tennis or aerobics to register at the Physical Education office in the gymnasium.

By now, planning for the interdivisional games is well underway, and King expects another successful year of excitement for the whole BCC family.

He encouraged students to keep an eye on the college’s official social media pages and an upcoming booklet for more details on how and when to take part in the annual activities.
