The Barbados Community College Shines at World Skills Barbados 2023

In a magnificent display of talent and dedication, representatives from the Barbados Community College’s Jean and Norma Holder Hospitality Institute (JNHHI) showcased their exceptional skills at the recently concluded World Skills Barbados 2023 competition.

The event, held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, brought together aspiring professionals from various fields, aiming to assess and certify learners based on world-class occupational standards, aligning with the broader objective of enhancing the nation's vocational education system.

After three days of grueling competition, JNHHI student Moriah Hill shone in the highly competitive cooking competition. Moriah emerged as the undeniable victor, with her remarkable culinary artistry, precision, and dedication earning her first place. Moriah’s exploits in and outside of the kitchen earned her further acclaim. She was adjudged the overall competition winner, being named the Best of Competition and the Trail Blazer, having come out on top in the Competitors Developmental Programme. And in keeping with the tradition of excellence, the JNHHI’s Chef Tremaine Reece was adjudged Best Coach.

The BCC students also stood out in the Restaurant Service Category. Saida Shepherd-Jones demonstrated exceptional skill and professionalism on her journey to being named champion in that category.  Aaliyah Morgan secured a remarkable 2nd place, captivating judges with her culinary finesse and creativity, while Izacc Herbert claimed an impressive 3rd place, showcasing his mastery of hospitality and impeccable service.

As the curtains came down on the 2023 edition of World Skills Barbados, the remarkable performances of these students from BCC serve as a testament to the hard work, passion, and unwavering dedication of the team at the JNHHI. Their accomplishments not only bring honor to themselves but also highlight the excellence of vocational education in Barbados.
