JOB TITLE:                        Tutor I – Counselling & Placement Centre

SALARY:                             S8

REPORTS TO:                      Director, Counselling & Placement Centre

DIRECT REPORTS:              All Staff in the Counselling & Placement Centre

           

CORE JOB ELEMENTS:

Summary of Core Functions

To cater to the counselling needs of the College.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To counsel individual students for personal and emotional concerns.

2. To administer, score and interpret a range of psychological tests for the measurement of personality adjustment, anxiety levels, self-esteem etc. for use in students’ counsel and consultations.

3. To consult with teaching staff on matters involving ‘problematic’ students.

4. To provide, when necessary, psychological support for students learning disabilities.

5. To facilitate, when necessary, the transition process of overseas students as well as enrolled students applying to overseas institutions.

6. To counsel applicants in the selection of appropriate programmes/courses in accordance with their career aspirations, interests and aptitudes.

7. To counsel individual students with respect to their personal needs in study habits, study skills and study attitudes.

8. To counsel students placed on academic warning/probation, and to review and remedy deficiencies of motivation, interest, application or study strategy.

9. To advise students with respect to dropping or adding courses, choice of electives, programme transfers and graduation requirements.

10. To liaise with educational partners, such as Commissions, Embassies and Higher Education Institutions, so as to provide overseas educational advisement for students seeking to further their education.

11. To perform any other reasonable duty that he/she may be called upon to do by the Principal or any other duly authorized person.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• First degree from a recognized university.
• A Postgraduate degree from a recognized university in Counselling and student development and not less than three (3) years’ experience.
• Relevant experience in the industry.

KNOWLEDGE
